Though I mainly work in 3D nowadays, my background is in 2D graphics. 
In 2005 I graduated from the University of Wuppertal with a Diplom II (Masters equivalent) in Communication Design (formally Graphic Design).
The knowledge of anatomy and facial expressions gained from drawing still helps me a lot when working with 3D characters.
